  Our Field Trip

Process

STEP 1: GROUP FORMING

You need to form a group of 4 with your classmates. The four of you will work together to complete the TASK assigned to you.

STEP 2: INFORMATION SEARCH

Your group needs to find out information about the proposed suitable locations for the outing.

So you need to do information search from the Internet.  When you do information search, the following questions in your mind may help:

  • Where is the study location?
  • How far is the study location from our school campus?
  • What values for learning does the study location have?
  • What particular natural features you expect the students to appreciate or particular experiences / knowledge that you want the students to possess / learn?
  • Any background information or history related to the study location?
  • How is the latest condition of the study location?
  • How interesting or attractive is the study location?
  • How large is the capacity of the study location?

Or any other questions relevant!

STEP 3: LOCATION SELECTION

Having enough information on hand, your group has to sit down and discuss which studied location is to be selected for your proposal to the headmaster and teachers.  During the process of discussion, the following question may guide you to the final decision.

Does the proposed location have a value for learning?

How long does the proposed location take to travel from our school campus?

How many students will participate in the trip? Can the location accommodate those students?

Or any other considerations?

STEP 4: TRIP PLANNING

Now, your group should have come up with a most suitable location for the outing.  It is time to plan for the details of the trip.  The headmaster and teachers are interested in knowing the following issues of the proposed location:

(a) Value for learning

What values does the proposed location have? (any environmental, historical or geological value, etc.)

What particular natural features you expect the students to appreciate or particular experiences / knowledge that you want the students to possess / learn?

(b)   Feasibility

How large is the capacity of the proposed location?

Can the proposed location accommodate all participated students?

Do they need to split into groups for the visit?

Will it cause any disciplinary problems? What will be the arrangement?

(c) Transportation

Any transportation arrangement need to be provided? Any parking issue?

How long will the travel time?

(d) General Arrangement

How long will the students stay there?

If the trip is held on a public holiday, how does it affect the schedule?

Is the location a restricted area so that you need to apply any permits for accessing? If necessary, what could you apply for that permit?

Is the proposed location a safe place for students’visit?  Is there any shelter for the students in case of raining or bad weather?

Do we need a tour guide(s) for introduction during the trip?  If needed, what is the arrangement?

(e) Budget

Any expected expenditures needed for the transportation, tour guiding, publicity, administration and other aspects? Try to get some information/quotations and make comparison on the pricing of various service providers.  The following websites may help:

STEP 6: PRESENTATION
